Johnstown Road, Cabinteely Village.

St Brigid's, Johnstown Road, Cabinteely, Dublin.

Johnstown Road Cabinteely.

St Bridgid’s church was opened by Archbishop Murray on the 10th of October 1836

It was dedicated to St Brigid and replaced an old eighteenth century chapel.

The latest church fronts onto a part of Johnstown Road which is between the

present day N11 dual carriageway and the (Old) Bray Road in Cabinteely.

St Brigid’s has been affiliated to a number of different parishes down through

the years some of the latest being Cabinteely/Foxrock until 1971 and is now

I believe to be affiliated to the Johnstown/Killiney parish. But still with some connections to Foxrock.

It has an excellent pastoral/parish centre to the rear of the church. It also has

a number of bus services mainly along the nearby N11 dual carriageway but

also some buses which serve the village itself.

Cabinteely village.

St Brigid was born in and around 450 AD and may have lived until c 525 AD

when she is said to have died in Kildare, where she had founded one of a

number of convents of nuns. St Brigid is patroness of poetry, learning, healing,

and blacksmithing amongst others, her feast day is celebrated on 1st of February.
