In nomine Patris, et Filii,
et Spiritus Sancti.
Amen
Castle Street, Dalkey.
The church was built in the early part of the nineteenth century and was
dedicated in September 1841. It is constructed under the style of the early Gothic Revival.
Dalkey became a parish in its own right in 1927 when it
separated from the parish of Glasthule.
The church building is situated in Dalkey village itself, with its main entrance from Castle Street.
Its internal aspects include a stunning altar and an Icon of St Begnet in the area which contains the Baptismal font.
There is an amount of paid parking to the side of the church which is accessible
from Castle Street. Dalkey Dart station is about a ten minute walk away but the
bus route which serves Ulverton Road can be somewhat infrequent.
Saint Begnet is the patron saint of Dalkey and is part of a number of early
Irish saints of which little factual information is known. She is believed to be
a member of a Nobel landed family which ruled north Leinster during the 7th century.
Her feast day is celebrated on the 12th of November.
